CREATIVE LEARNING AND SUPPORT

We are an independent home education support and social group for families that are involved in, or hoping to commence, education at home.

We are currently based near Bangor, North Wales.

Why do we use the acronym CLAS for our group ?

I found the following in a small book on Pilgrimages to Bardsey;-

'Clas' was the usual name for the type of Celtic monastery found in Wales in the early centuries. Having found a desired plot of land a saint would build a small church and a little cell or hut to live in. There was something exceptional about these people and they would attract others to them, individuals and families and as everyone built a shelter there would be several huts around the church and that is how a 'clas' often developed. There would be several families in a 'clas' and there would be craftsmen and labourers to cater for the daily needs of the community.
Briefly a 'clas' was a community of men, women and children living a religious or devoted life!

So, whilst we are definitely not a monastery, nor could any of us claim 'saintliness' or indeed any particular religious persuasion, we do feel as though we are like a small community working together positively towards a common aim!
